Calories are
The number of calories tells us how much energy is in the food. You may hear adults talk about calories as bad. Some adults count the calories they eat. But we need many calories as kids because we are growing and playing so much!


However, many low calorie foods are the foods high in vitamins and minerals, like fruits and vegetables!

Compare the following two labels. Which food has less calories (energy) and more vitamins and minerals?
