If you guessed that the Earth is an inner planet, you are correct!

Mercury is the closest planet to the sun. It is small and looks a lot like the Earth’s moon.

When you look at the Earth’s moon, you can see craters and a rocky surface. The surface of Mercury looks like this, with bumps, wrinkles, cracks and ridges. Mercury’s surface is interesting, but the most amazing thing about this planet just might be how much its temperatures change! Are you ready for this? The temperature on Mercury ranges from a low of almost –300° Fahrenheit at night to a high of almost 900° Fahrenheit during the day.

Venus is the second planet from the sun and is about the same size as the Earth.

Some people even call it the Earth’s sister! Don’t let that title fool you, as there are incredible differences between the Earth and Venus. The temperature on Venus’ surface is almost 900 degrees Fahrenheit! Venus’ atmosphere has thick clouds and gases that trap in heat, just like a greenhouse. Venus is also very hot because it has over 150 lava-spitting volcanoes.

The third inner planet is the only planet that has water as a liquid on it’s surface. Can you guess the name of this planet?
